BLG1886 identifies the following Richard as a "descendant of the ancient Norman family of Picot". BE1883 reports that "The house of Pigott was founded in England by Pigott, Baron of Boome, in Normandy, one of the knightly companions of William the Conqueror. Surprisingly, John is not mentioned by BLG1886. VCH (Buckinghamshire, vol 4, 'Parishes: Quanton with Shipton Lee') suggests that he fits here and reports that he "secured his title in law" to Doddershall, succeeding Lettice, wife of Thomas Pigott of Doddershall.

  Possibly of this generation was the following Elizabeth but, if so, it is not clear who was her mother. A contributor (DS, 18.11.2003) suggested it was Ellen, dau of Robert Leigh of Adlington. Visitation (Cheshire, 1580, Leigh of Adlington) shows a Leigh of that generation married to a "Picott of Chetwind" but she is not mentioned in any of the sources used for this page.
