Families covered: Ireland of Bewsey, Ireland of Garston, Ireland of Hale, Ireland of Hutt, Ireland of Lydiate

BLG1886 reports that the family "was founded by Sir John de Ireland, living temp. William the Conqueror" (who r. 1066-1087). It then identifies the Adam of Hutt (who m. Avena Holland) as son of Sir John Ireland of Hutt and grandson of Sir Robert Ireland of Hutt. However, it appears that Adam's family name was Austin and that he (probably) became known as de Ireland only after he returned to Lancashire from Ireland (where he had been brought up) to claim the inheritance of Hale through his mother.
