The latter contradicts VCH (Brixworth) in identifying Francis's sons Edward & Francis as being by his 1st wife rather than his 2nd.   The following is supported by 'History and Antiquities of the County of Leicester' (John Nichols, vol 2, part 2, 1798, 'Pedigree of Saunders of Foxton and Sibbertoft', p564) and HoP. Nichols (p792), which identifies Thomas as son of Edward, shows that he was father, by Margaret Cave, of Sir Edward, Lawrence, Blatton, Joseph & Thomas but does not otherwise follow this line. Nichols (p564), which identifies Thomas as son of a Laurence of Sibbertoft (which we assume was corrected by p792), follows the line of his son Thomas but indicates that he had 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
  m. Margaret Cave (dau of Richard Cave of Stanford)

VCH (Northamptonshire, vol 4, Parishes: Faxton) reports that Sir Edward's heir was his daughter Mary. It also suggests that Sir Edward "was apparently a brother of Francis Saunders of Welford" but this should be cousin.

Nichols (p564) is unclear on this generation, showing the above numbered according to their date of birth (but with William & Mary both numbered 2) but adding, without such numbering, Ambrose (b c1672, a 1683, "only son") & Mary (b c1667, a 1683).
