| BLG1886 starts its article with the following: "The Walcots derive their descent from one of the ancient septs of Wales, and their surname from the marriage of an ancestor with the heiress of the knightly House of Walcot. They were seated at Walcot, Salop, from time immemorial .... the family is said to be of Saxon origin." BLG1886 shows Humphrey as the elder son and 'of Walcot' (and follows his line) with Charles 'of Builth' and ancestor of Walcot of Winkton (with no further information on this line). Visitation (London, mentioned below) shows Humfry as 'of Walcot Esq. and of London'. TCP (Bristol) describes Charles, father of the 1st Earl's wife, as "of Walcott". We presume that Charles was the elder and that Humphrey retained an interest in the area sufficient to enable him to be described also as 'of Walcot'. | |||||||||||||||
