  Although TCP (Dacre) acknowledges that William's wife is said to have been Joan Douglas "illegit. da. of James, Earl of Douglas" it then reports that his wife was called Mary. As was kindly brought to our attention by a contributor (JH, 24.03.08), the dates make it likely that Mary, if a Douglas, was of the same generation as James (2nd Earl of Douglas) rather than his offspring.
