This page is still being researched. It has NOT yet been launched formally into the Database but is shown here TEMPORARILY (albeit for an uncertain length of time pending further research), partly to record connections that we fear we might otherwise lose sight of and partly in the hope that one or more visitors to the site will contribute information that will enable us to develop our information on the families covered in this page to a standard that would support release of a dedicated page in the Database.

Gwaithfoed Fawr, Lord of Powys§W§ (F28)
Griffith's Pedigrees (p325) identifies this Gwaithfoed as "Prince of Ceredigion" and son of "Eunydd ap Cadifor ap Peredur Peiswyrdd ap Einion ap Eunydd ap (according to some books, Brochvael ap Iswallt ap Idris Arw ap Gwyddno Garanhir ap Gorwyniawn ap Dyfnwel Hen, King of Gwent) Pwyll ap Sandde ap Gwyddno Goron Aur (Garanhir in some books), Prince of the Cantref Gwaelod". We have yet to investigate this further.
m1/2. Nest (dau/coheir of Ynyr ddu, King of Gwent) shown on Griffith's Pedigrees as wife of Gwaithfoed [2021 review: check exactly where]
m2/1. Morfydd (dau/coheir of Ynyr ddu, King of Gwent) shown on Griffith's Pedigrees (p291) as mother of ...
1/2. Gwerstan or Gwerystan or Gwerstan
See the continuation for notice that showing Gwerstan/Gwerystan as son of Gwaithfoed Fawr is dsputed by some. BLG1952 ('Lloyd of Blaenglyn'), which starts with Gwerystan, identifies him as "Gwerystan ap Gwaethfoed, of Cibwyr, in Gwent". In Griffith's Pedigrees he is identified as son of Gwaithfoed Fawr, Lord of Powys, on both p214 (which shows his daughter Lleuki, wife of Llowarch Gam) and p291 (which starts with Gwaithfoed Fawr, Lord of Powys)
2/1. Cynan Feiniad = Cynan of Tegaingl = Cynhillin ap Gwaithfoed of Ceredigion
That Cynyan was son of Gwaethvoed Fawr is given by BP1934 ('Newborough''). See note under his daughter Madlan (below).
  A. Ednowain (Edenowen) Bendew of Tegaingl (a 1079)§W§ (F37)
Unfortunately, Richard Williams (see the §W§ link at N13), does not identify Ednowain's parentage but he does confirm that Ednowain lived at Llys y Coed in Cilcain, Flintshire, and married Gwerfyl. He is described in BLG1952 ('Lloyd-Davis of Whittington'), which covers Gwerfyl's family, as "Edwyn ab Owain-bendew of Llys y Coed". It appears that he was ancestor of many families, some of which (such as the Hanmers) are reported by Williams. Some of his other descendants are shown on Tmp23. Williams suggests that Bendew means "the strong skulled".
  m. Gwerfyl (dau of Lluddoca ap Tudor Trevor, 'Earl of Hereford')
  i. Blettwrs ap Ednowain Bendew of Tegiengle probably of this generation
  a. Efa
  m. Maredud or Meredith, Prince of Powys (d 1132)
ii. Madock ap Edenowen Bendew possibly of this generation
iii. Perwir possibly of this generation
m. Rhys Goch
  B. Cadifor ap Cynhillin ap Gwaithfoed of Ceredigion probably of this generation
The following comes from Griffith's Pedigrees ('Plas yn Ial', p189).
  i. Madog ap Cadifor
  a. Gruffydd ap Madog
  (1) Adda ap Gruffydd
  (A) Gruffydd ap Adda 'of Dolgoch & Ynysmaengwyn'
  (i) Nest (coheir)
m1. Llewelyn ap Cynwrig ap Oborn Wyddel (a 1343)
m2. Ieuan Lloyd ap Dafydd Vychan
m3. Einion ap Gruffydd, of Chwilog
  C. Madlan Beludan = Modlan Benlydan (dau of Cynan of Tegaingl, son of Gathvoew Vawr)
Griffith's Pedigrees (p264) identifies Modlan Benlydan as dau of Cynan Feiniad son of Gwaithfoed Fawr of Powys. BP1934 ('Newborough' identifes her as daughter of "Cyanan, a Lord of Tegaingl, son of Gwaethvoed Vawr, a noble of the kingdom of Powys, and sister of Ednowain Bednew, a Lord of Tegaingl".
  m. Collwyn ap Tangno, lord of Efionydd and Ardudwy, of Bronwin's Tower ('Collwyn')

Gwaithfoed of Powys§W§ (F29)
'Griffith's Pedigrees' (p325) identifies this Gwaithfoed as son of "Gwrhydyr Hir ap Caradog ap Lies Llawdeawg ap Ednyfed ap (according to some books Gwnawg Goch, &c, see under Bleddyn ap Cynfyn) Gwinan ap Gwinawg Farfsych ap Ceidio ap Cory ap Corf Cynog Fawr ap Iorwerth hirflawdd ap Tegonwy ap Teon". [2021 review: The database has so far been searched for Gwrhydyr, Hir, Carado (to cover both Caradog & Caradoc), Gwina (to cover both Gwinan & Gwinawg), Ceidio, Tegonwy & Teon without any useful result except:
* finding the reference, at the top of Wales17, to Teon who is supposed to have lived in the 5th century.
* notice that Ceidio is a place name, possibly named after the above ancestor.]
