Commoners starts its article on this family with the following: "This family, ranking amongst the most ancient in the British dominions, is still resident upon lands granted to their Saxon progenitors, in a very curious charter from King Athelstane" (who r. 924-940).   BLG1952 reports that "No record of (their) children exists but the names of William of Roddam, living 1397, 1405, 1415 and 1422, and Nicholas of Roddam, living 1428, and 1441, are found in contemporary records." BLG1952 then recommences the line with the undermentioned Sir John Roddam (d 1461) who is the first proven ancestor given in the pedigree provided by Commoners (although Commoners then jumps to the Edward Roddard who m. Mary Saville). The following connection between that Sir John and the earlier members of the family is therefore wholly speculative.
