Families covered: Michell of Bodmin, Michel of Dewlish, Michel of Kingston Russell, Michell of St. Columb, Michell of Truro
Commoners reports Hutchins as having said "This family derive their descent from Gilbert de Aquila, sometimes styled Gilbert Magnus, or, in Saxon, Michel, who came over with William the Conqueror, and settled at Michelam, now Mitcham, in Surrey. Some branches were seated at St. Columb, in Cornwall, from John, a younger son of the last of which, that of Kingston Russell, is descended." We have yet to find a source which shows exactly how the Michels of Kingston Russell connected to the Michels of St. Columb so the following is wholly speculative, being made only so as to illustrate that the families were indeed connected. | |||||||||||||||
