  Visitation (Dugdale, Lancashire, 1664-5, Stanley Earls of Derby) suggests that Sir John was 'of Elford' and was son of Sir John of Elford (by Isabel, dau/coheir of Lord Verdun of Alton, widow of William, Lord Ferrers of Groby), son of John of Elford, younger brother of William of Hooton with both being sons of Sir Thomas (by Margaret, heiress of Hooton) son of William by Joanna Bamvile. Robert is identified as son of Sir John (by dau/heir of John (not Thomas) Latham) and younger brother of John of Howton and Thomas, lord Stanley. That does not fit with the above (or anywhere else in this database) so, whilst the few dates found do roughly fit with this generation, showing him as of this generation (and brother of these siblings) should be viewed as highly speculative.
