Families covered: Rodes of Barlborough, Rhodes of Bellair, Rhodes of Modbury, Rodes of Stavely Woodthorpe, Rodes of Thorp

(1) Most of the sources used for this family spell the family name "Rodes". We (provisionally) use "Rhodes" for the page title simply because that is the spelling most known nowadays, possibly mainly because of one man, Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902).
(2) The family descended from Gerard de Rodes who moved to England from Normandy in the time of Henry II (who r. 1154-1189) was probably either of the family of the Counts d'Armagnac & Rodes (Rhodes) or of a family of hereditary knights in Flanders.
