Families covered: Raleigh (Rawley) of Downton, Rawleigh (Rawley) of Fardell, Rawleigh of Smallridge

Note that the following Sir John is not shown by Vivian but only by the pedigree shown in Visitation (1564). Given that we have discounted both the earlier and the later generations of that pedigree, doubt must be felt about the following. However, the apparent fact that there have been confusions with some of the generations should not lead us to ignore all that was reported in that Visitation.
Sir John Rawley
m. Anne Pomeroy (dau of Sir John Pomeroy)
1. Sir Simond Rawley (dsp)

  A. Walter Rawleigh of Smallbridge of Fardell
  m. Katherine Champernon (dau of William Champernon)
## Visitation (Wiltshire) shows Walter's wife as Margaert, dau of William Champernon. Vivian names her Katherine. We think that confusion about to her identify could have led to the confusion that appears to have been shown in Visitation (Devon, 1564) (see above) which supports the next few generations. Walter is the first mentioned by MGH which does not name his wife.
  i. Wymund Rawleigh of Fardell, last of Smallbridge named Walter by MGH which is also mentioned as an alternative by Visitation (Wiltshire)
