Commoners reports that "Isted of Ecton came from Eysted, a large maritine town in the province of Schonen, in the kngdom of Sweden, and settled at Framfield, in Sussex, probaby in the time of Edward III where they enjoyed a considerable estate, some part of which continued in the family till 1718, when it was sold by Thomas Isted, esq. of Ecton." Commoners identifies the arms of this family as "Gu. a chev. vaire between three talbots heads, erased or".
