  'HamiltonHistory' (p314), supported by 'HJHeraldry', reports that the 2nd son, James, was "said to have purchased the lands of Bangour and to have been the ancestor of the Hamiltons of Bangour". 'HamiltonHistory' (p83) reports that a manuscript in the British Museum Library names him Alexander, Anderson names him James, whilst 'The Scottish Antiquary' (V, 86) names him John, but "I have found no evidence extant verifying this origin." The dates indicate that he was most likely of this generation and was the same person as the John identified on 'HamiltonHistory' (pp314-5) as the first of this line.
