Families covered: Cole of Brancepeth Castle, Cole of Stoke Lyne, Cole of Twickenham

HoP reports that the 2nd Bart "descended from an insignificant Gateshead tradesman who died in 1583". A web site on Brancepeth identifies the following Ralph as "Grandson of a blacksmith, he was a local boy made good."

BLG1886 reports that the following family "was seated at Twickenham, Middlesex, for several generations, and may be found in the church registers as early as 1584. Previous to the time of Cromwell, the Coles possessed nearly the whole place". BLG1866 also reports "One branch of the family was elevated to the rank of Baronet, 1640" which, given that the only Coles who obtained a baronetcy in 1640 were those of Brancepeth Castle, suggests that this family was connected to the Coles just above.
