BIFR1976 identifies the following Hugh as 4th son, by Helen Cunninghame, of Sir James Hamilton of Fynnart (in fact it was Sir James of Evandale & Crawfordjohn, son of Sir James of Fynnart, who married Helen Cunninghame). 'HamiltonHistory' (p992) reports that he is indeed often identified as a younger son of that Sir James but then argues that he must have been a generation later, as shown on the continuation.
