(1) MGH reports that "The Family of Essington of Essington in Staffordshire (spelt Estlington, Esnynton, etc.) seem to have been substantially placed in Staffordshire in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries".
(2) As noted below, different branches of this family bore different arms. That indicates that they were not aware of a common ancestor who had a right to bear arms.

  MGH (NS4 vol 2), used for the earlier generations, identifies John merely as "first son". He is the first mentioned by both Visitation (London, 1634, 'Essington'), which supports the following (some of which was first launched on 13.11.21 within a Temporary page), and MGH (NS5 vol 5) which identifies their arms as "Sable, five fusils crosswise or".

The following comes from MGH (NS5 vol 4 (1922), 'Pedigree of Essington', p27) which extends what is supported by Visitation (Gloucester, 1682, 'Essington of Slymbridge') which identfies the arms of the family as "Three spear heads erect in fess".
