| Various web sites report that Ormus was born about 1104. However, BLG1886 (Davenport of Davenport) and other web sites report that Ormus was living in the time of William the Conqueror (who d. 1087). Noting that Gilbert de Venables, shown below as father-in-law of Ormus's grandson Thomas, was grandson of another Gilbert de Venables who is known to have come to England at the time of the Conquest, it is likely that either Ormus was indeed born c1104, or that either (or both) of he or his son Gilbert married late in life, or that a generation has been missed out here. Some sources identify Ormus as 'of Davenport' but others suggest that it was his son Richard who obtained Davenport from the Venables family, presumably consequent to his marriage. | |||||||||||||||
