1. William Crichton, 3rd Lord (d before 23.10.1493)
  William forfeited his title because he joined the Duke of Albany in rebellion against King James III. It was rumoured that he helped forment that rebellion because the King had seduced his wife Marion. It was also rumoured that he seduced Margaret Stewart, the King's younger sister, to spite the King.

  In 1827 their descendant David Maitland-Makgill-Crichton of Rankeillour (see here) was unsuccessful in his claim for the vacant Viscountcy of Frendraught. However, one of his descendants (having simplified his name to just Crichton) was formally recognised as Chief of the Clan Crichton.
