Bernard Brocas of Alton & Bradley (d 1423)
There is confusion between the generations of Bernards. We tried to follow the text within Burrows's book but found that difficult, ending up relying on a pedigree given later in the book. That pedigree confused this compiler by omitting the reported marriage of this Bernard with Emmeline Sands who is clearly referred to in the main text and who is shown by Visitation (Hampshire) as mother of William and the next Bernard. This contradiction, along with a concern about Bernard's wife Johanna Banbury, appears to have been resolved by the book's 'Corrigenda' but we have been left a little nervous!

2. William Brocas of Alton & Bradley (dsp before 1484)
William is shown by Visitation (Hampshire, 1686) as of this generation, probably older than Bernard, and dsp. In the text, Burrows shows him as younger brother of the Bernard whose will was dated 1502 and confirms that he dsp, contradicting any suggestion that he was ancestor of a De Brocas family in France. In the pedigree (which we presume took into account the Corrigenda), William is shown as of this generation.
