  Thanks to a contributor (DU, 21.10.15) who sent us an extract from FASTI (vol VI, p433) which shows that Thomas (b c1574) was son of John of Cromartie and brother of Alexander of St. Martins. We hope to investigate this discrepancy in due course. Data taken from that FASTI extract is shown below in italics.

  The following connection is speculative as we have seen reference to Newhall being sold into a Gordon family in the 18th ceentury However, we are not sure if that happened in or just after the time of the above Alexander or of the undermentioned David. Although the Hunt source does confirm that the Newhall of David was in co. Cromarty, and so is presumably the same Newhall as is mentioned above, it is possible that the undermentioned David was not of this branch.
