Families covered: Topham (Tophan) of Agglethorpe (Aglethorpe)
| (1) Clay identifies the arms of the following family as "Argen, a chevron Gules, between three cranes' heads erased Sable". The Harleian Soc. identifies the birds in the arms as herons rather than cranes. (2) For several eneration, Clay spells the family name as 'Tophan' but we keep to 'Topham'. Clay spells the property as 'Aglethorpe' but the Harleian Soc. spell it as 'Agglethorpe'. The latter appears to be what is used nowadays. |
