Commoners reports that, according to Blakeway, it is a family tradition that it derives "from Slaney, a town in Bohemia, eighteen miles N.W. of Prague". Commoners then quotes Blakeway as mentioning a Frederick Slaney (a 1648), son of Vallantine Slaney, as being from a town (probably Konigsberg) in Prussia. If there was any truth in that then Frederick was probably merely a merchant who worked in/with Prussia. Commoners starts with John father of Lord Mayor Sir Stephen and John, the latter being grandfather of the Robert who m. Anne Moreton. We follow BLG1952 which disagrees with that, commencing with ...
