'The Genealogist' reports that "The founder of this family, Thomas Wood, is stated to have come into Northumberland from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, soon after the year 1651" but that "There is however on record no connecting link between him and the Woods of Staffordshire .... Neither can he be identified with any of the Woods of Thorpe, co. Ebor. (Yorkshire)".
