Families covered: Winstanley of Billinge, Winstanley of Winstanley
[On 05.05.14, the original Winstanley1 was renamed Winstanley2 and this page was first launched, as Draft, to cover earlier generations. This page was moved here after review led to the acceptance that there was little chance of our making a significant improvement to it in the near future and that it was 'good enough' to be promoted into the main database.]
VCH refers to the manor of Winstanley and reports that "The earlier stages of the history of the manor have been described in the account of Billinge", thereby suggesting that Billinge was held by the family from an early stage. In its section on 'Townships: Billinge', VCH reports that Billinge "originally included Winstanley" and that "The shares of the Billinge and Winstanley families cannot be traced satisfactorily." The following has been pulled together from references in VCH's report on the Township of Winstanley. | |||||||||||||||
