| There is disagreement between our sources as to whether or not the House of Avandale (later Ochiltree) descended from Murdach's second son, Walter, or his fourth son, James. BE1883 (Albany) and BE1883 (Avondale) acknowledge that there is "strong evidence" that Walter was the ancestor but nevertheless the former indicates that James was the ancestor.
