Thomas Maxwell 'of Gelston' | |||||||||||||||
TCB (vol 3, 'Maxwell of Orchardtoun', p340) shows that the baronetcy of Orchardtoun "became, apparently, extinct or dormant" upon the death of the 2nd Baronet who is shown in the continuation as elder brother of this Thomas. However, TCB adds a note that the baronetcy "was, however, assumed subsequently, and the deaths occur of (1) "Sir George Maxwell, of Orchardton, 28 Dec. 1746." and (2) Sir Robert Maxwell, Baronet, of Orchardtown, 21 Sep. 1786," who is said to have been the 7th and last Baronet." | |||||||||||||||

ThePeerage.com mentions this Thomas and cites 'The Book of Carlaverock' (1873) as the source for much of the following, including showing that Thomas & Elizabeth Glendinning (sic) were parents of the following Sir Thomas.
