BLG1952 reports that "The Guernsey family of de Havilland derives its name from the fiefs of Haverland, situated nr. Valogne, in Normanby, of which they were lords in A.D.1050. In Guernsey they were tenants in capite, as early as 1176, of another fief, to which they had given the name by which it is still known."
