| BE1934 reports that Laurence married "a sister of O'Flaherty, Dynast of Iar Connaught" who "a devout Roman Catholic, fearing that her child might be brought up a Protestant" took the infant away. Laurence appears to have accepted this and, without formally divorcing her (apparently on the basis that the marriage was not valid, a view that appears suspect), married Ellice Butler. BP1934 suggests that, were it not for the fact that the country was in turmoil at the time, his son Thomas would probably have inherited the title. TCP (Esmond of Limerick) does not support that view. | |||||||||||||||
