| There is some confusion over the next generation or two. Visitation (1558) shows the William who m1. Ann (Lday Malteavers) m2. Anne Egerton as son of William of Lancahire. Visitation (1612) shows him as younger brother of John, both being sons of this John, son of Henry. Visitation (1634) & 'Evidences' both start with that William (m1. Anne, m2. Anne) but add a note identifying William Deane of Soffeld (a 05.1577) as "2 sonn of William Deane of Soffeld 2 sonn of William Deane the sonne & heire of John Deane of Tonworth in Billington".
