Families covered: Cullen of Craan, Cullen of Liverpool, Cullen of Liscarton

(1) BIFR1976 reports that "The origins of this family, ecclesiastically one of the most distinguished int the history of Ireland, are uncertain. The family tradition that the Cullens (O'Cuileanain) were originalyl a S Leinster family before moving northwards during 18th and 19th cents ...". That suggests that the following family shared a root with the family shown in the upper section of Cullen1 but that the connection was probably rather distant.
(2) BIFR1976 mentions Thomas Cullen of Cullenstown (m. Martha Colclough) in a preamble that implies that the family pedigree thath was the focus of the article was somehow connected to him. However, BIFR1976 also reports that "A connected descent can be proved from" Hugh of The Burrenside, making it clear that it was not known how Hugh was connected to Thomas. The connection we show is not 'speculative'. Instead it is wholly arbitrary, being made to give us an excuse to include the family as, other than with that Thomas, we have not yet found a connection to it from elsewhere in the database (we hope to do so in due course).
