| Although the family name appears to have been first spelled as Wodehouse, after the 15th century or so Woodhouse appears to have become more popular, although different leads were taken by different branches. We roughly, but not fully consistently, follow the leads given by BLG1886 and BLG1952. Commoners (vol 3, 'Woodhouse of Womburne Woodhouse', p613+) covers this family (starting with William Cocus) but, as BLG1886 differs (e.g. leaving out some of the earlier generations), we presume that further research led to uncertainty on some of what Commoners reported and so we have ignored Commoners for the upper section. | |||||||||||||||
