[This page was first launched on 04.03.10 as Draft 'Smith99". It was moved here after review led to the acceptance that there was little chance of our making a significant improvement to it in the near future and that it was 'good enough' to be promoted into the main database. Nevertheless, it remains possible that in due course we will find how the sections below connected together. We may then redo this page along with Smith16 which covers some descendants (from Robert Smith of London below).]

The following comes from Visitation (Worcestershire, 1569, 'Smyth').
Edward Smyth of Stoke Prior, Worcestershire
m. Dorothy Denton (dau/coheir of Edward Denton of Ambersdon)

The following comes from Visitation (Worcestershire, 1634, 'Smith'). Presumably connected to the above was ...

The following comes from BLG1886 ('Smith of Halesowen Grange'), supported by BP1934 ('Dudley'), which identifies the following William as "a presumed descendant of the Smiths of Stoke Prior, of whom were the two baronetical families of Upton and Isfield". We show those baronets of Upton and those of Isfield as descendants of Robert Smith of London (m. Mary Baines) just above. It is possible that the following William was one of the 'other 9 sons' mentioned just above or was son of one of those sons.
William Smyth or Smith of The Breach (Hunnington, near Halesowen) & Stoke Prior (d 12.1684)
1. William Smith of The Breach
  A. William Smith of Dove House Fields in Hunnington
Thanks to a regular contributor (CV, 18.03.22) for drawing our attention to the Housman Society Journal (vol 42, 12.2016, p64+) (here) which provides the following information. Note that BLG1886 suggests that William was ancestor of the Smiths of Bourne Heath, Worcestershire, which is supported as follows.
  i. William Smith of Bournheath (d 1761)
  m. Mary Smith (dau of Joseph Smith of Bournheath, cousin) @@ just below
  a. William Smith of Bournheath (bur 22.09.1762)

  m. William Clinton of Belbroughton
B. Joseph Smith of Bournheath & Hunnington (d 1725)
BLG1886 identifies Joseph as ancestor of Smiths of Hunnington ("now extinct"). The above-mentioned Housman Journal suggests that Joseph, "a local farmer", bought 'The Clock House' in Bournmeath and was father of William & Mary.
