Families covered: Rasby of Rasby (Risby of Risby), Rasby (Risby) of Kirk Smeaton

The article in 'The Genealogist' spells the family name as 'Rasbye' or 'Rasby', though it does show 'Risbye' as an alternative for the first generation. Walker spells the name throughout as 'Risby'. Provisionally, we follow 'The Genealogist' but may review this in due course. However, it does seem that the estate that passed into the Ellerker family was known as 'Risby'. Both sources start with the following John who was possibly living c1100? As with all family records which are not reported in a wide range of proven sources, we suggest that the early generations of this family be viewed with some caution.
