Families covered: Plumer of Blakesware, Plomer of London, Plummer of Mount Plummer, Plomer of Radwell
(1) We spell the name of the page with 2 Ms rather than 1 because, although "Plumer" appears to be not uncommon in North America, "Plummer" is much more common in the UK and Ireland and we suspect that many of the families which have one of these versions have a common root. We believe that the name mostly derived from 'plombier', which means lead worker (which produced the modern trade name of plumber), but that in some cases it could have come from 'plumier', which means feather worker. (2) We have no reason to believe that the 3 families shown in this page were at all closely connected to each other. They share the page for our convenience. |
