Maurice 'Drummond' of Hungary, Thane of Lennox (d 1093)
According to tradition, Maurice, son of George who was a younger son of King Andrew of Hungary, accompanied Edgar Atheling, heir to the English throne, from Hungary to England. They were shipwrecked on the shore of the Forth. In 1068/9, one of Atheling's sisters, Margaret ('the Saint') married Malcolm III 'Canmore', King of Scots, from whom Maurice received various estates and titles, including Thane (justiciar & guardian) of Lennox. According to pages 9-10 of 'House of Drummond' (identified below), he may have been given the name Drummond from the estates he received (one was in the parish of Drymen in Dunbartonshire) or from an office he held, possibly being derived from dromonts or dromoners, captains of a "ship on a swift course", "But, it is most probable that the name has an allusion to the tempest which drove Maurice and his vessel to the Scottish shore; and hence its common derivation from the Celtic words drum, a height, steep, or back, and onde, a wave, denoting the back of a wave, or a high wave; and to this correspond the bars called unde or wavy, as they are blazoned on the Drummond's arms." TSP seems to support the view that "the surname was adopted at a later date from the lands of Drymen or Drummane in the Lennox, or from lands of a similiar name in Strathearn". Noting that TSP identifies Malcolm Bef as "the first recorded ancestor of the Drummond family", the following upper section, which comes wholly from 'House of Drummond', should be viewed as 'traditional' i.e. possibly mythical.
