| This marriage is not recorded by TSP (Morton) but BP1934 (Carmichael-Anstruther of Carmichael and Anstruther) identifies John's first wife as "Margaret Douglas, dau. of Thomas Douglas of Lochleven, ancestor to the Earls of Morton". However, there is some uncertainty on this as if she had married John after 1541 then that would be late in his lifetime (he had already outlived his eldest son who had been killed at the battle of Pinkie in 1547). If her marriage to John was her first then, if these marriages are right, they must have been divorced. | |||||||||||||||
