Families covered: Burton of Longner

Commoners reports "The Burtons of Longner in Shropshire, are by some conjectured to have come out of Yorkshire; and there are traditional accounts of their descent from Liionel, Duke of Clarence, by Alice Burton, and of their possessing Burton Constable, in Yorkshire, which was sold to Lord Scrope, in the reign of Edward III. But these facts are not well substantiated, while there is abundant proof of their having been seated for many centuries in Shropshire." Commoners then provides the following line but there is a suspicion that it is more a record of various recorded members of the family than a proven line of descent.
