Families covered: Somers of Halstow, Somers (Sumer) of St. Margaret's, Scarlett of Jamaica, Scarlett Lords Abinger, Skepper of Durham, Skepper of East Kirkby, Swann of Ufford Hall, Swann of Wansford
The following is one of those families whose name is spelt in so many ways that searching for them in a database such as ours is quite tricky! The Harleian version of the Visitation that is the Main Source for this family spells it as "Sumer" but adds a note to confirm that the pedigree "in Stowe 618, as well as the one in the College copy" spells the name "Somer". Other variations we have seen include Somers, Sommer, Sumers & Summer. Somewhat arbitrarily, we are favouring "Somers" but may revise that in due course should we find a major source on the family which uses another version.

Robert is not mentioned by Maddison. This connection is speculative but seems reasonable given that Visitation (Durham, 1575+1615, Skepper of Durham) identifies this Robert as son of Richard Skepper by dau of Legard and also as brother of Edward who had a son Richard. However, whilst that Vistiation (which provides the following) shows the father of Richard & Edward as Richard, it shows their mother as a dau of Sir Robert Silkstowe.
