TCB notes that the following John "was descended from "Jock" Gordon, of Sundargue, illegitimate cousin of Elizabeth Gordon, who married Alexander Seton, and was ancestress of the Earls and Marquesses of Huntly and of the Dukes of Gordon". That supports the following connection which, until we see it confirmed, should nevertheless be viewed as "provisional".

  TCB reports that William was attainted for his support for the Jacobite rising in 1745 but that the attainder was afterwards reversed, apparently in his lifetime. "To save the estate, however, he had made it over to his half br., Capt. John Gordon, who contrived to keep possession of it".
