| There must be some uncertainty on the following generations since BP1934 omits details of them whilst giving contradictory information, viz: that the great-grandson of William and Marion Chalmers was John Dalrymple of Stair who married Isabel Crawford (dau of George Crawford of Lochnorris) and had a son James (of Stair) whose great-grandson was the 1st Viscount. That report seems to have too many generations. Paterson shows William & Marion as father of William (dvp) father of William (a 1531) father by Margaret (dau of Wallace of Cairnhill) of the following John (a 1535, m. Isabel, dau of George Craufurd of Lochnorris) father of James (d 1586, m. Isabel Kennedy).
