Families covered: Barlow of Barlow (Barley of Barley, Lancashire), Barlow of Slebetch

(1) Barlow in Lancashire appears to have produced more than one family of that name, both being established for many generations. We show one below and another on Barlow02 but note that it is possible that we will find a connection between them in due course. Both of those families appear to have suffered in Tudor times, appartently at least in part due to the religious disputes of those times.
(2) The family name was normally spelled "Barlow" but "Barley" was also quite common, with "Berley" an occasional variation.

BEB1841 has identified the wrong Queen. TCP (Elphinstone) reports that Elizabeth Berlay or Barlow, wife of 1st Lord Elphinstone, was "an English lady attached to the Court of Margaret, Queen Consort of James IV" (who r. 1488-1513). Elizabeth must have been quite young when she married & died.
