Families covered: Aislaby (Aslakeby) of Barden, Aislabie of Rotherham, Aislaby (Aslaby) of South Dalton, Aislabie of Studley Royal
[Most of this page was first launched as Draft on 19.04.10. We had hoped to connect at least the first two sections below but have not succeeded in finding the connection and so decided to launch the page 'properly' into the database.]

(1) Visitation spells the family name as 'Aslakeby' throughout within the pedigree but in the notes uses 'Aislaby' or 'Aslaby'. Cross-references from elsewhere in the database use Aislaby or Aislabie. VCH uses 'Aislaby'. Provisionally we use 'Aislabie' for the page title but may change this in due course.
(2) The relevant section within VCH reports that a coheiress of the Barden family married an Aislaby and then mentions Richard Aislaby. We presume that the Barden heiress was Richard's mother.
?? Aislaby
m. ?? Barden (dau/coheir of John de Barden of Barden)
1. Richard Aislaby of Barden in Richmond, Yorkshire (d 03.1496-7)
  A. Thomas Aislaby of Barden (a 1536)
VCH indicates that Thomas was succeeded by William whom we presume to have been his son. The following William was the first mentioned by Visitation.
  i. William Aislaby or Aslakeby of Barden
  m. _ Wycklyff
  a. James Aislaby or Aslakeby of Barden 'of South Dalton' 'of Aslaby' (3rd son)
Visitation shows James's wife as Margaret, dau of Sir Thomas Gowre, but the Harleian editor adds a note to suggest that she was in fact Jane, dau of Sir John Gower. Provisionally we keep to the former which is supported by the report on the Gower family in BP1934 (Sutherland).
